Temporary Burn Restrictions Brooks County

Brooks County is under burn restrictions temporarily until drought conditions improve. All open burning of yard debris, including leaves, limbs, grass, and other vegetative matter, is hereby restricted within the unincorporated area of Brooks County effective February 11, 2026. No person shall ignite or allow the burning of yard debris outdoors.

Exemptions from the burn restrictions are the following:

• controlled burns conducted by government agencies or authorized personnel for forestry or public safety purposes

• fires used for cooking in approved grills or fire pits, provided they are attended and comply with applicable safety regulations

• agricultural or forestry burns conducted under a valid permit and in accordance with state law and Georgia Forestry Commission guidelines


The Brooks County Tax Assessor’s Office has contracted with Georgia Mass Appraisal Solutions and Services (GMASS) to perform data collection. The appraisers will be conducting on-site inspections of residential properties over the next several weeks. These appraisers will be gathering information for tax purposes, including:

  • Verifying measurements of homes and other improvements

  • Documenting physical characteristics and condition

  • Taking photographs

For identification purposes, a listing of the appraisers and their vehicle information is attached.
